stay at home mom

14 years ago today, our son Noah was born and made me a mother.   Life has never ever been the same.  I had no idea the sheer joy that motherhood would bring.

At the time we had Noah, I had only had my Magic Brush painting business for a little over a year. During that time, I had landed several prestigious home builders in the area and several high-end home designers.  I  had a ton of work, but now…. we also had a baby.  And he was precious. And the thought of leaving him every day to go paint was just nothing I could ever dream of doing.

Even tho’ the faux business was hot, hot , hot…… I was willing to give it all up to stay at home with him full-time. I was smitten.

But yet, I liked what I did.

And I was making great money.

Was there any way I could keep my faux painting business and stay at home with my baby as well???

It wasn’t always easy, but yes…. I figured out a way to be what my friend Carrie calls a “work from home mom”.  I hired women to paint for me.  I learned to delegate. I  would take samples to builders when daddy was home and have discussions with designers over nap times. I would take my baby to job sites to check in and trained my clients to understand my boundaries. I figured out how to send bids over the fax machine while I changed a poopie diaper.  Essentially, I figured out how to make a full time income while working part-time hours from home with my babies in tow.

My son changed my business because I was determined to figure out how to make money while he napped. I just could not and would not leave him full time.

Fast forward many years and now with social media and websites, it is easier than ever before to make money from home.  Yes, even in a painting business. Yes, even in your crafting business. Yes, even for your baking business and jewelry business and whatever other creative industry you are in.  Do not get sucked into the poverty mindset that you must do EVERYTHING in your business or you will lose control.  Nooooooooooo, you need to hire good people and get out of their way.

My inner circle online business group is focused on women who own or are starting a business and are trying to take it online to make more money with it.  I would love for you to join us. Yes, you CAN own a business and be home to put your kids on the bus and get them off of the bus every day. And I can teach you how I do it.

Sign up is HERE.

And Happy Birthday to our son Noah.  He changed my life.  And he changed my business. And I’m forever grateful.

xoxo,

Jennifer

Time management might just be one of biggest topics I get asked about and I do believe we just want someone to tell us what to do. But don’t get caught up in thinking that someone else’s plan on how they’re managing their time is going to work for you. The truth is, is that’s never going to work, because God wired each of us different. We have different ways of working and things that make us tick. I think it’s important for YOU to figure out how YOU get things done. And then go get things done, friend!

My Best Secret to Time Management

I actually think there is one key factor when it comes to getting more done in less time. I think managing your time boils down to this…discipline.

I have a theory that if you can tighten up all areas of your life, you will find that the area of getting more done and managing your time will also tighten up. For just one example, when my eating is sloppy and I’m not taking care of what’s going in to my body. Usually, then, my exercise is sloppy and so is my water intake and I notice I’m also spending when I don’t need to.

There is no time to be wasting. I promise you, if you can be more disciplined in more areas of your life, it will carry over to others. Discipline is contagious.

So if you need help in your time management, try starting by adding some discipline to other areas of your life.

But there is something else…comparison. Stop looking on the interwebs at all the things others are doing. Listen, if they have figured out what works for them, fantastic. And take all the tips and tricks you want, but you trying to copy someone else’s habits, you diminish the fact that God made you, YOU!

Someone else’s schedule slapped over your life will not give you more time, friend! Stop looking for tricks. Instead, get off the internet and turn off the distractions!
