Foiled Fireplace | Magic Brush

We faux finished this ordinary white fireplace in a client’s master bedroom recently. Yeah, I know…..I’d love to have a fireplace in my bedroom too! Groovy….

I failed to get any pictures of the different steps”…..but I will tell ya what we did.

We painted the whole thing black….

then rolled it all with something called “Wunda size(affiliate link)

then adhered “foil” to it (picture rolls of tin foil with a colored pattern on it)….

then glazed over it with Faux Effects Stain and Seal so it was toned down a bit.

And called it beautiful.

Does that make sense ???

Here is an “after” shot with NO flash on my camera. It really isn’t this dark…..

I really struggle with photographing our work sometimes.

But my closeup pics look good.

You can see the black base coat coming through.

And now I want a fireplace in MY master bedroom.

Nice work girlie! Is that Bronze or Copper foil?

ha! i like the comments about too dark and too bright; the up close detail is amazing. great job… it would be dreamy to have a fireplace in the master bedroom.

This is beautiful Jennifer! Mind sharing whose foil it is? I have a bunch of varying-colored samples from Kathy in Chicago (Faux by Kathy). Have you checked out Rebecca’s toilet paper holder on the Surfaces blog? Too cool!

Oh, and I always take comfort in the fact that even Architectural Digest has trouble photographing these kinds of finishes! 🙂

I love it! Great job! I always struggle photographing the foil finishes too.

Would you be willing to provide the exact foil and stain and seal that you used on this fireplace? I’m doing my bathroom cabinets and love this finish.

Would you be willing to share the exact foil and stain and seal you used for this fireplace? I am doing my bathroom vanity that has very little detail and would love to use this finish.

Kim I actually am not totally certain of either. The foil I got from Surfaces Fine Paint in Lenexa, KS. 913-888-9996. I think it was Colonial Gold…but not 100% certain. The stain was stain and seal either in American Walnut or Van Dyke Brown. Hope that helps.
