Here is my client’s bombay chest before.

And here it is after.

First, we deglossed and sanded the piece.  Next… we used Sage Green Aquabond for our basecolor. It’s available online.  You could also use Sherwin Williams color “Svelte Sage”.

It’s close in color. Just get it in an eggshell sheen. You don’t want flat. You don’t want shiny.

Base color is on. I’m panicking. I thought the piece was pretty to begin with. The designer didn’t actually tell me what to do on it. She said green. Apple green? Sage green? Forest green? Army green? WHAT GREEN?????????

Too late for panicking now… it’s green. Let’s continue.

I glazed it with that coffee can of color sitting in the corner of the picture! This is where the “flaky-artist” part of me rears her ugly head. I don’t know what the color is. I know it’s Stain and Seal from Faux Effects/Aqua Finishing Solutions. I’m gonna say it’s closest in color to “American Walnut“. There is thinner mixed with it.

If you were wanting to glaze it with a glaze from a paint store… I’d pick a dark brown glaze that has more red in it than green. Make sure it is dark and that you can thin it out.

Here is one panel glazed on the Bombay chest.

Brush it on heavy.

Leave it dark in the crevices, but wipe the rest off with cheesecloth. You can order cheesecloth from Home Depot.

But wait! There is more!!!!!! I added FolkArt’s “Pure Gold” $.99 bottle to color to all of the details edges. It sealed the deal.
