Adding architectural interest to your cabinets

By October 28, 201013 Comments

Do you ever see things like this at Home Depot/Lowes and wonder what you could use them for?

Or things like these rectangle trim pieces?

Or these architectural pieces?

Or even these wooden medallions?

They are all usually found in the wood trim section and come unpainted. We have had several clients lately add these decorative pieces to islands, stove hoods and other furniture type cabinets.

For example, this island was oak and flat on the end….

But I convinced our client to add those pre-made trim pieces to the ends and we painted it cream and glazed it. What a huge difference!

Another client added these pieces to her island…

And of course we forgot the after picture. Sigh…..but it was cream with glaze. Nice….

This hood got dressed up…..then painted black and glazed.

And this hood is my absolute favorite….

What’s NOT to love, huh?

Where’s the hot glue gun? I need to add something to my cabinets!

  • Oh, my, goodness. This is beautiful! You are so talented. I wish to know the color of white on those cabinets, since I’m in the market for my own kitchen 🙂

I haven’t ever seen those rectangle trim pieces like you put on the island. I love that color you used on it too, what is the base coat and glaze color? Beautiful!!!

Gosh I wish you were closer to me! Loving your great ideas! I’m too much of a chicken to try it on my own! Although I am still thinking about doing the same thing to my boys bathroom as you did to yours. Love the red cabinets and the big playful pick of your boys!
Please let me know if you’re ever in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. I would love your help!

  • Jennifer, you do spectacular work. The last pic was especially impressive. Thanks for sharing.

All of the touches mentioned were impressive. But…that last one is simply stunning!

I’m another one that would like to know the color you used and the glaze too if you don’t mind.

My daughter redid her guest bath vanity, adding the wooden scroll type thingys, painting & glazing. She also found beautiful knobs for the doors at Anthro. Beautiful!

    Have a wonderful weekend ~

  • Amazing what you can do to class things up! I did this to my cabinets in our other home and I got so many compliments on them. I’ve added wrought iron pieces to islands after they have been painted too and it makes an incredible statement. Love your work!

I have been dying to add those rectangle frame things to my cabinet fronts, but I didn’t know you could buy them already put together in a rectangle! Are you kidding me?! I am soooo heading to Lowe’s.

  • Did you glaze the cabinets too? They look darker….I’m looking for options for my orange oak cabinets.
