I have self-induced “dresser drama”….
A college girl who babysits for me asked me to paint this old dresser for her:

I heard her say TEAL…. and yet…..like a moth to a flame… my hand reached for TURQUOISE.
So, I was going to show you this gorgeous turquoise and black dresser today:
OOPS!! She wanted it teal, so I had to repaint it.
Have you ever banged your head against a beautiful piece of furniture that you just painted???????
Yeah, me neither. But I wonder if it would make me feel better.
So now that I have changed the dresser to teal, you be the judge in which color you like best: teal vs turquoise?
Teal vs Turquoise?
I’d love to hear from you!
All I know is that if my husband has to load this dresser up one.more.time….we may be breaking up.
If you’re thinking about painting furniture, I recommend you start with a good chalk brush – I love these the chalk type brushes and true sponge applicator from Heirloom Traditions and my favorite top coat is this one by Modern Masters.

Well, it’s beautiful anyway! REALLY well done and a super job too. I sure hope you don’t have to redo? 🙁 Pam @ Sallygoodin
Wrong color or not, it is beautiful! I’m not one to throw this word around, but I find your work very inspiring. I very much enjoy your bold use of color. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, the detail on those drawers is fantastic. I could hardly notice it before you painted. Maybe she should have provided you a paint colour. I would hate to have to re-do a poece, argh. Be sure and show us the teal when you’re done.

Oh no–that stinks! Bummer, it is beautiful.
Oh My! It’s beautiful just the way it is…I hate that you feel the need to change it. I can’t even begin to imagine the work you must have put into that piece.
You have my sympathy!

I would hate to start over, maybe turquoise was what was meant to be!!! What is that color?
She obviously has never painted furniture before! Sorry you have to redo…bummer. When I was faux painting in my other career days, I would make the client inital the color. Then if it was wrong, I didn’t hve to take the responsibilit by myself. Hope it works out for you.
That may be wrong, but it’s still gorgeous!
It’s sooo beautiful! Gorgeous. It CAN’T look any better in teal. Is she sure about this?
Oh man…wouldn’t a coating of dark glaze make it more teal?
As Scooby would say….ruh roh.
I think turquoise is way better than teal! It is beautiful as is!
Nooooo. It is so gorgeous dressed in turquoise.
Say it isn’t so. Would banging her head change it? (Sorry….that was a bit cruel.)
:O
I love when old ugly furniture is painted and looks so nice and new. Unfortunately, I think this one was beautiful before it was painted. It makes me sad that that beautiful wood is now covered in paint.
it is BEAUTIFUL!!!! maybe the dresser was telling you it wanted to be turquoise because it knew it would look so pretty that way. maybe it doesn’t want to be teal.
OMG that sucks! But maybe she’ll love it and keep the colour. I’ll cross my fingers for you. Let us know what happens.
your kidding RIGHT!!! OMGOSHHHHHHH!
Maybe she’s colorblind because that is gorgeous! HELLO!
LOL!! Thanks for being so human. 🙂
Donna
holy moly, that looks wonderful. those details were definitely under utilized in the wood tones! i would l.o.v.e. love this piece!
Oh my it looks gorgeous….did she see it before you change it? I love it as is….I do not see why she would not either…gorgeous!
Oh no! It is so lovely as is, what a bummer. But if she had a specific color in mind, well, I guess I understand. But still.
Now has she seen this piece with the turquoise? It’s gorgeous. Maybe she would actually prefer it this way. If she insists on teal, make sure you show that one too! I want to see which one I prefer, although I can’t imagine that the teal would be any prettier than this!
Huh. Did she want more green in it? I’m trying hard to figure out what she could object to here. It’s beautiful!
wow i love it!! sounds like an oops i would make hehe. but it’s gonna look fabulous teal as well i’m sure! lovely.
I just loooove the color! I bet your babysitter does too, and hopefully you won’t have to bang your head! Don’t worry, you aren’t the only one who does things like that. Trust me! 🙂 Found you over at the Bragfest.
oh no!! but it is so beautiful!!! don’t change it!!!!!!

you did a fantastic job, I hope you don’t have to re-do it!
This is gorgeous, great choice on turquoise, ha, that rhymed 🙂
Well I LOVE the turquoise — it’s beautiful….but I want to see it in teal now too. Nice job! 🙂
Has she seen the turquoise dresser yet? Because if so, I can’t imagine wanting to change it! I love the turquoise and black! I wouldn’t change a thing (but that’s just me 😉
Oh, wow! It’s so pretty! I’d have to get her to change her color scheme to include turquoise!
Rats. Isn’t there anyway to convince her that teal was so 80’s?
But this is gorgeous! Sorry you have to redo it 🙁
YIKES! That’s a lot of work to re-do! What a gorgeous dresser! Maybe if you show her first she will fall in love w/ it as is? One can hope, right!
Thanks for sharing your ideas & talents! You are such an inspiration to me. I started my own blog about re-purposing things & now my whole house is being turned upside down! 😉 Have a wonderful day!!
I would let her decide…because she would be crazy not to love it!! Gorgeous!!
Oh!! I agree with Gail, Has she seen it? It is so beautiful! Hopefully she’ll want to keep it this shade of blue, because it is just beautiful 🙂
Wendy
hmmmm so close, yet so far apart….. still looks dandy, maybe if you showed her she’d dig it!

I’m in love with this dresser. I built a table over the weekend, and could not decide what color to paint it. Your dresser is perfect! http://wendysfavoritethings.blogspot.com/search/label/Table
Thanks for the inspiration
Love that color – turquoise!
