I thought this buffet was pretty to begin with, but my client was ready for a new look. After considering several faux options, we decided on a soft sage green finish.
Here is her buffet today:

A closeup so you can see the sanded edges.
Joy painted most of it in my living room for me. It’s so much easier than carrying it down to the studio to work on.
This way Ava can be in on the action too (let’s be honest….I just wanted to show off a picture of her cute leopard print dress!).
We used tinted Black Bison fine paste wax or tinted furniture wax to “glaze” over the green:
You can see the difference here. One drawer is waxed and one is not. The wax helped to “dirty up the green”.
I am diggin’ it.

Very nice! Once you wax the piece, can it be scrubbed (say if something was spilled on it)?
Ok so I wanted to join the Power of Paint party but I can’t show my item next to yours…it is too beautiful!! I can’t get over how gorgeous the green is. I really love it!
I love your dirty sage! Do you usually use the wax? I always use the stain and then poly, but do like the idea of wax (might help those flabby arms too)!
PS–thanks for your sweet blog comments–very honored from a pro like yourself :)!
I love your creativity and your passion for your family. It is so wonderful to see a professional woman who finds so many special ways to spend time with her kids while she is pursuing her creative passions! You are a true inspiration to me!!!

Wow, gal you have some talent!! Thanks for stopping by my blog. You invited me over, but pleased to say I have been lurking around your blog for a while. I took a faux painting class in Sioux Falls about 5 years ago with Liz (cant remember her last name), and Kelly King from Omaha is a family friend, dont know if you know him or not. Did a few jobs, way under priced myself, and have fallen off the faux wagon. My original goal for the class was to do furniture and that buffet you just did I want, want, want!!! I just want a studio so bad, maybe someday. Keep up the fantastic work!!! You rock!
I love it! I’m thinking that would look fabulous in Jordan’s room. Guess I’m going to be searching at garage sales this spring for one like it…well and other fab bargains too!
This piece is beautiful! Love the color!! Great job!
Great job! Boy are you brave painting on the carpet area- I would have it all over the place!!
What an amazing transformation! I love it!

Very nice. I have never done the stain and sand thing on my pieces. What do you do? Paint them and then apply a stain after they dry and wipe it off? Then you sand the edges. Just trying to learn so I can maybe give it a whirl one of these days
Pam
It really looks great! I love the color and the wax over it. I know this sounds like a real amatuer but I am ~ what kind of paint do you use when painting a piece of furniture? Do you use a primer first? Not sure if a satin finish paint is the right choice or not and then there’s the wax. *shaking my head* 🙂
Thanks in advance!
Wow, it is a lot like mine. I haven’t used the colored wax before. I used glaze and then I use the clear paste wax on top.
Jennifer it’s me again. Thanks for swinging by Becolorful with that info. Do you sand just edges or do you also sand like in the inside corners of moldings too? Sorry to be such a pain.

Hi Jennifer,I saw your post on the shabby chic cottage and thought i pop in and say hi!
I looove what you’ve done with this piece!
I’m working on a Hutch at the moment and have so far done 2 coats of undercoat…I wanted the end result to be white with a touch a black showing through but tried it on an old stool and din’t like it.
Do you think that if I paint it white then water down the black a just give a light wipe it will soften it.
I asked my paint shop for glaze but they said they don’t sell it.
I would appreciate any input…thank you!

That’s gorgeous! The waxing/glazing is one of the things I haven’t had a lot of success with…I was using a glaze. Maybe I should use the wax? How did you apply it? Do you mind sharing some tips 😉
I am loving it!!! 🙂
Thanks for the tip on the furniture wax. I just used stain this morning on a project but the wax would have been easier and probably prettier.
We need your help…. maybe you should do tutorials.. Please
Love the sideboard by the way.
Love how you dirtied up the green… great tip!
