Our Gold Front Door!

When we moved into the new house, the front doors had been faux finished by my Magic Brush Inc. faux painting company about 10 years ago. They were painted in a brown color and we literally used plastic bags to do a faux finish on them in Modern Masters English Brown. Then, the builder put a lot of iron over the front doors.

So, we wanted to really transform the feeling of the house from old world (which we loved at one time, but our taste has changed!) into more of a modern feel. We took off the iron and one of my Facebook followers actually contacted me about wanting it! So, all of that iron has gone to her home and we’re so glad we were able to give that to somebody.

By the way, we totally had our boys remove all of the iron for us because #TeenLabor.

After we painted the exterior of our house (more on that coming soon!), we also wanted to make sure the front doors really made a statement. In trying to determine what color we wanted to use, we were looking at navy and we were looking at fuschia, but I couldn’t get Mr. Magic to sign off on that. LOL.

My friend Deb from Metropolitan Designs suggested gold. So we had the painters spray them with Modern Masters Brass, but they just looked a little bit flat. They were slightly on the green side, and it wasn’t nearly as gold as the look we were going for. 

So, we ordered Modern Masters Pharoah’s Gold and mixed it with a little bit of Adicolor glaze. And my friend Deb and I literally sponged some of the gold color over top of the brass. It instantly made it SHINE. Now, they’re not gold as in jewelry, but they’re definitely a beautiful, rich gold color. When you get really close to it, you can see that there is a faux-finish on it. (You can take the girl out of the faux painting industry but you just can’t take the faux outta the girl!!! LOL).

NOTE: In order for that metallic paint to look the most “metallic-y”, it needs to be sprayed. If you’re using metallic paint on a small area, it can be rolled, but for a large area, it really needs to be sprayed.
