I bring home furniture like some people bring home pets!

So I see a Craigslist ad for a “free dresser sitting at the end of driveway“. No picture. Just described as black.

I am such a sucker for furniture. So, I drive to the house. The dresser looks cute from a distance. But, the closer I get, the more TLC I see it needs.

I see it’s MDF instead of wood and one of the drawers is badly mangled.

But I disregard all logic and start to put the drawers in my truck.

And then ……logic returns and I take them back out.

But then I feel bad for the mangled drawer!!!!

I think of my husband. While a terrific sport, this may be pushing the envelope a little. I’m certain I will hear the word “junk” in conversation regarding this particular dresser.

I disregard all logic and reload it anyway. Grrrrr…….

I bring it home like a stray cat.

I spackle over that mangled drawer. I prime it. An improvement already.

I spray it black.

I bought new handles for it and took advantage of free labor by letting the neighbor kids put the handles on.

I need to disguise that one mangled drawer a little more, so I purchase these vines.

I paint them “pearl”, glue them on and antique them with black.

I’m calling this as good as it gets.

I have it listed on Craigslist. I’m hoping the cute factor will override the “it’s MDF” factor!

Lessons learned:

1. only bring home purebred “pets”…. no more MDF pieces EVER!
2. when you already have a garage full of “pets”….do you really need another?
3. and…my husband is the greatest….he didn’t say “junk” even once.
